Oosterschelde:
Vannes (FR) - Rotterdam (NL)

10 May 2027 - 19 May 2019

Walking through the old centre of Vannes feels like stepping back in time. Narrow streets wind between colourful timber-framed houses and historic walls. Gradually, the city opens towards the harbour, where town and sea meet. Here, you will board the Oosterschelde for your journey to the Netherlands. The route will take you along the French coast, through the English Channel, and on the North Sea to Rotterdam. On board, you will join the rhythm of life at sea, assisting with sailing, steering, and stand watch. The crew will teach you navigation and sail handling. Between activities, there is time to relax on deck. After rounding Île d’Ouessant, you will enter the English Channel – a busy shipping route requiring heightened awareness. After passing the Strait of Dover, you’ll reach the North Sea, where traffic increases further and offshore wind farms come into view. Finally, you will enter the Nieuwe Waterweg and make your way to Rotterdam, the final destination of this voyage.
Open to all Windseekers aged 18+. Younger trainees, accompanied by an adult, at request.

Ports

Vannes is a medieval French town with a distinctly Breton character. The well-preserved old city centre boasts many small pedestrian streets and colorful buildings, so go ahead and explore! Its sheltered location in the Golfe du Morbihan makes Vannes a populair sailing destination, and the surrounding countryside offers beautiful scenery – a perfect setting for a hike! In the summer Vannes organizes a Jazz festival and a historic festival, so you might be in luck when you arrive…

Rotterdam is the largest port of Europe, and a modern, bustling town. Much of the historic city centre was destroyed during World War II, but extensive rebuilding resulted in a modern, multicultural city with many architectural highlights. Rotterdam has excellent cultural facilities and a diverse nightlife; during the summer the city hosts a large number of events. Discover the city by bicycle or on foot – or take a train to the nearby Hague.
