Fair winds, fair planet: sustainable Exchange@sea youth journey co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union. For trainees from France, Netherlands, Norway, Hungary, Sweden, and Denmark.
Sail from Fredrikstad (Norway) to Copenhagen (Denmark) with young people from several different countries. Learn to sail a traditional Tall Ship and take an active role on board, from climbing the masts and trimming the sails too steering and navigating. Conduct plastic research and learn about the marine environment from the science educators of The Ocean Movement. Make international friends and learn from each other while enjoying a wonderful and adventurous holiday!
For young Windseekers aged 15-25, ages 26-28 at request. Additional fees may apply due to the necessity of becoming a member of a partner organisation of your country (up to € 25-50).

About the Journey

Set course for a Tall Ship sailing adventure on board the Gulden Leeuw. Step on board in Fredrikstad, where many Tall Ships will be gathered for an international sailing festival. Find your vessel among them, and join the international group of young Europeans for an adventure filled with fun, learning and new friends! Conquer your fears and climb the mast together for spectacular views, and an incredible bonding experience.

Learn to live together with people of different backgrounds and nationalities. The mentors on board will help you feel at home, and make sure everyone gets as much as possible from this experience. Help the cook make a national meal from your country, play your favourite music while cleaning the ship during "happy hour," share the best environmental practices from home. Gain self-confidence, improve English skills and make like-minded friends.

Sustainability and sailing go together like ice cream and pie! Steer the ship, powered only by the wind filling out the sails – it’s a truly majestic feeling! Join plastic research of the sea, led by a marine biologist, who will teach you to collect water samples, analyse them for microplastics and record the results in a worldwide database. Learn about dolphins, seals and other marine wildlife and look for them in the waves. Enjoy the fair winds, and brainstorm solutions for a fair planet

No budget? No worries! The Windseeker Dinghy will help you get on board. The program, much more than just a fundraising training, is part of your preparation and included in the Exchanges. Raise money for your journey, supported by an experienced coach. Learn new things about yourself and gain life skills. It is also a great way to connect with other trainees. Let us know at booking if you’d like to take part. It's a good idea, really. Regardless of financial reasons. Join Dinghy and get going!

Ports

100 km south of Oslo, Fredrikstad is a coastal town, on the East side of the Oslofjord. Fredrikstad has a mix of old and new - The 'Gamlebyen' Old Town is a well-preserved star fort, across the water from the modern waterfront. Visit the 16th-century Kongsten fort, or Scandinavia's largest model railway. Fredrikstad has successfully been a host port for the Tall Ship Races before, welcoming sailors and visitors with great events.

Copenhagen, Denmark's clean, modern capital will win you over with its many districts, each with its distinctive character. Copenhagen has an abundance of water and many parks, so rent a bicycle and explore the city! You'll find architecture old and new, lovely waterfronts and squares, fountains, and of course the friendly inhabitants of the city. Copenhagen has a lot of great restaurants and bars, and in the summer plays host to several festivals. In the winter, its museums are worth a visit.

STO Garant

This Journey is covered by the STO Garant guarantee. You can find the conditions for this guarantee scheme on STO Garant’s website (www.sto-garant.nl/en/downloads).

This process is automatic and you do not need to do anything else. After receiving your booking, Windseeker will send you detailed information on how and when to pay for your journey – together with all the other important details.

What does it mean?

In short: you do not pay the booking amount to Windseeker but instead into an escrow account. This trust account holds your payment in reserve until your journey’s end. The booking amount is then released to Windseeker on the day after your trip ends. If Windseeker or the Ship should become financially insolvent before the end of your trip, STO Garant will implement the guarantee. The Guarantee Scheme details how you can make a claim under the guarantee in such cases. You can read more about this here.
