Oosterschelde:
Stanley (FK) - Punta Arenas (CL)

13 January - 21 January 2024

DARWIN200 Global Voyage: Leg 10. Explore the Strait of Magellan and spot penguins, seals and whales from the deck of our ship! In the heart of this frontier land at the end of the world, we reach Punta Arenas, a fascinating gold rush boomtown beset with elaborate woolboom mansions, lying close to the terminus of the Andes. If weather and circumstances allow, we may be able to visit Steeple Jason Island en route from Stanley, home to the world’s largest albatross colony!
There is no more Covid-19 protocol on board, but the participants must make sure that they comply with the rules of the countries visited during the Journeys.

Ports

Punta Arenas, a regional capital in Chile, is located on the Brunswick peninsula north of the Strait of Magellan. The city is often a base for Antarctic expeditions. Originally established as a penal colony in the 19th century, Punta Arenas has developed into a major logistic centre. The surrounding nature is inhospitable, but the locals more than make up for it. Punta Arenas offers sharp contrasts, between affluence and poverty, between historic and modern. An interesting place to visit!
